I don't really pretend to deliver here a full-blown free typing lesson. A typing tutor can help for that, or a typing teacher in the class. Or you can find some typing lessons online too. However, I do want to write up here very briefly some of the very basics of touch typing on the computer keyboard. Touch Typing, if you didn't know, means typing by the sense of touch instead of vision, because when you touch type you don't look at your computer at all. You perform that little wonder of typing with tend finger without looking at your keyboard. So what I'll present here are some quick guidelines - call it a mini "free typing lesson," sort of - on how to place your fingers on the keyboard, starting from what is known as the "Home Row," thus the middle row of the keyboard that is "home" to your typing fingers as we'll see shortly. The rules of placing the fingers and hitting the keys on the keyboard are called Finger Placement. OK, let's start. I'm also presenting here a typing video explaining the placement of the fingers on the Home Row of the Keyboard. NOTE: whatever I present here - whether in writing or video - is just based on my own limited knowledge and is presented "as is." I do not claim to be a professional typing teacher or to know everything about typing. I might even err with a thing or two. So don't just rely on this "free typing lesson." If you want to learn to type correctly, you may want to consult an expert or typing teacher. I would also recommend you to use a typing tutor or an online typing tutor website. (Learn more about online typing tutor websites here. So here's what I would call here a quick "free typing lesson" to place the fingers on the keyboard and type fast with ten fingers. Place the fingers of your left hand on the middle row of the keyboard. The middle row is also called the "home row". When your fingers are on this row, they are at "home." It is the base where they should always be stationed. After hitting keys on the other rows, always bring your fingers back "home." The fingers of the Left Hand are placed on the keyboard in this order:
The fingers of your Right Hand are placed on the Home Row in this order:
On some keyboards, there's a little bump on the J key and the F key (and on other keyboards on other keys of the home row). This is to let your fingers know that they rest on the right keys on the home row. The thumbs of both hands are used only to hit the Space Bar. Some typing instructors suggest to hit the Space Bar only with the Thumb of the righ hand, and for left-handed people - of the left hand. When you place your right hand and left hand fingers on their respective keys on the keyboard, you'll see that 2 keys are still left unattended. They have yet no fingers correspond to them. These 2 keys are the G and the H. The Index Fingers will be used to hit these 2 keys as well. So, when you want to hit the G key, do so with the Index finger of the left hand. And when you want to hit the H, do it with the Index finger of the right hand. After hitting the G with the left-hand Index finger, return your finger immediately to its regular place, on the F key. After using the Index finger of the right hand to hit the H key, return it immediately to the J key. When touch typing - typing without looking at the keyboard - feel the bumps on the J key and the F key, to make sure that your fingers are back "home." Next, place your fingers on the upper row of the computer keyboard, one row below the number keys. By the way, If you just "read" the letters of the upper row, starting from the left, you'll see the "word" QWERTY. The "QWERTY keyboard" is the standard keyboard used in many places. It is called so because of these letters on the left side of the upper row on the keyboard. 1 2 (free typing lesson - continued) Numeric Key free typing lesson Keypad (on the right side of the keyboard)typing lesson Learn Special Typing Symbols and Characters Have A Great Story About This Topic?Do you have a great story about this?
