1, 2, Numeric Keys Typing Lesson

  • Pinky - Q
  • Ring - W
  • Middle - E
  • Index - R

Now, place the fingers of the right hand on the right side of the upper row of the keyboard, in this order:

  • Pinky - P
  • Ring - O
  • Middle - I
  • Index - U

Again, 2 keys are left unoccupied - the T and the Y. The index fingers, again, will hit those 2 keys as well.

We've already learned a great deal in this Internet typing lesson so far. Let's continue with the lower row. Things are a bit more complicated now, but not really... Just a small change. It's an easy typing exercise, after all:-

Place the fingers of your left hand on the keys of the lower row in this order:

  • Little (last one) - Z
  • Ring - X
  • Middle - C
  • Index - V

Now, place your fingers of the right hand on the lower row of the keyboard in this order:

  • Little - Forward Slash
  • Ring - Period
  • Middle - Comma
  • Index - M

Now, you've surely noticed that on the lower row, 2 keys, as was the case on the other 2 rows, have been left "uninhabited" again, no fingers being placed on them.

Well, we're not done yet with the typing lesson...

Place the Index finger of the right hand on the N key, and the Index finger of the left hand On the B.

Two more things to mention before we're finished: First, when you do touch typing, always place your fingers on the Home Row, not on the upper row, nor on the lower row.

The Home Row is the middle row of the keyobard. When you do hit the keys on the other rows, always return "home" immediately.

Finally, keep in mind: when you have to hit the Shift key, to capitalize a letter, for example, do it with the opposite hand.

Let's say you want to shift type the letter A - hit the letter A with the little finger of the left hand and the Shift key with the little finger of the Right hand.

On the other hand (really...), when you want to shift type the letter L, hit the key with the Ring finger of the right hand and the Shift key of the left side of the keyboard with the little finger of the Left hand.

You've now successfully completed the free online typing lesson.
